Введение
Среднеразмерный кроссовер Ford Explorer (что в переводе означает «исследователь») впервые появился в 1990году ипрактически сразу же стал лидером по продажам в своем классе, оставив далеко позади конкурентов и со временем став одним из ярких символов Америки. Автомобиль непрерывно совершенствовался, увеличивались его размеры, менялся дизайн, повышался уровень комфорта и безопасности.
Ford Explorer 2006
Премьера четвертого поколения Ford Explorer (заводской индекс U251) состоялась в 2005 году. При создании этой модели были учтены пожелания покупателей: увеличена мощность, снижена токсичность выхлопа, повышена экономичность, усовершенствованы средства безопасности, уменьшен уровень шумов в салоне, улучшена плавность хода. Кроме того, эта модель стала последним настоящим рамным внедорожником – следующее поколение, вышедшее в 2010 году, представляло собой уже обычный «паркетник» с несущим кузовом.
Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2006
Explorer 2006 года узнаваем по «слезкам» круглых указателей поворота, смещенных во внутренние углы блок-фар, и фундаментальной решетке радиатора до середины бампера. Причем, внешний вид радиаторной решетки отличается в зависимости от уровня комплектации автомобиля. На выбор покупателя предлагаются как традиционный Explorer с кузовом универсал, так и версия пикап Explorer Sport Trac.
Mercury Mountaineer 2006
Традиционно для американского автомобильного рынка, практически одновременно с Ford Explorer был представлен «близнец» модели – Mercury Mountaineer. Автомобили отличаются только внешним оформлением (формой фар и фонарей, радиаторной решеткой, бамперами).
Салон отличается высоким качеством материалов отделки и безупречностью сборки. Рычаг селектора переместился с рулевой колонки на центральную консоль. Центральная панель изобилует большим количеством кнопок и переключателей, среди которых и клавиши электронного подключения полного привода. Травмобезопасная рулевая колонка регулируется по высоте, позволяя водителю выбрать наиболее удобное положение. В целом, эргономика и комфорт на самом высоком уровне. Всё сделано для того, чтобы сделать затяжные поездки не утомительными. Причем места предостаточно на всех трех рядах сидений.
Отдельного внимания заслуживает багажник. Даже при разложенных сиденьях третьего ряда он способен вместить 385 литров. А при складывании сидений второго и третьего ряда образуется поистине гигантский грузовой отсек объемом 2,5 кубометра. Ну, а о пикапе Sport Trac с его открытой грузовой платформой и вовсе говорить не приходится – это самый настоящий грузовик.
Под капотом может быть установлен один из двух V-образных бензиновых двигателей: улучшенный по экономичности и уровню шума 12-клапанный шестицилиндровый мотор Cologne V6 SOHC рабочим объемом 4,0 л (210 л.с. при 5100 об/мин и 344 Н·м при 3700 об/мин) или 4,6-литровый 24-клапанный восьмицилиндровый Triton V8 SOHC с изменяемыми фазами газораспределения (292 л.с. при 5750 об/мин и 407 Н·м при 3950 об/мин). Силовые агрегаты комплектуются автоматическими коробками передач: пятиступенчатой 5R55W или шестиступенчатой Ford R6. Двухступенчатая раздаточная коробка Borg Warner-4411 (с понижающей передачей 2,48:1) и системой полного привода ControlTrac обеспечивает три режима работы трансмиссии:
- 4×4 Auto – передний мост подключается в случае проскальзывания задних колес.
- 4х4 Нigh – предназначен для передвижения в тяжелых условиях (снег, вязкий грунт и т.д.). В этом режиме блокируется межосевая муфта и жестко подключается передний мост. Крутящий момент распределяется по осям в соотношении 50/50.
- 4х4 Low – функция, предназначенная для движения в очень тяжелых условиях. В этом режиме межосевая муфта заблокирована и включается понижающая передача.
Первые два режима можно переключать на ходу, не опасаясь за состояние элементов трансмиссии. Режим «4х4 Low» – только при полной остановке.

Lights Always remember to turn on your headlamps at dusk or during inclement weather. The Daytime Running Light (DRL) System does not activate your tail lamps and generally may not provide adequate lighting during these conditions. Failure to activate your headlamps under these conditions may result in a collision. -

Lights Move the control to the full down position (past detent) to prevent interior lamps from illuminating when the doors are opened. AIMING THE HEADLAMPS The headlamps on your vehicle are properly aimed before leaving the assembly plant. Driver Controls Compass display The compass reading may be affected when you drive near large buildings, bridges, power lines and powerful broadcast antenna. Magnetic or metallic objects placed in, on or near the vehicle may also affect compass accuracy.
